How to make money with mechanical tree planting?
We all know that the workforce in forestry is going down rapidly. Struggling with foreign labor is not so simple and to get domestic labor means more expenses and lower quality of employees.
That´s the main issue- labor. But on the other hand, that is also a solution. To have a good, skilled operator is not so easy, but you have to train them anyway. Then if the operator has worked in subsoiling or earth moving, he can have the wrong ways to work with the planting unit- so better train from the start. And working with a modern environment with computers and GPS- location, it can attract more young persons. They feel to be more combat pilots than bus drivers.
What are the money issues relating to mechanical planting? Manual work you need to have more or less mulcher, subsoiling machine, fertilizer, herbicide sprayers, and watering. And a bunch of planting people, tractor operators and supervising.
With the mechanical machine, you need only the operator and another person to help time to time bringing seedlings, water, etc. One helper can easily support 3 units working in the same field. Or just one operator, that depends on your own calculations.
